Is promotion necessary when budgets are good?

The best resourced library needs to promote its stock just as much as the poorer one.

Promotion does bring value for money but the answers to the question 'Should libraries promote books?' are more to do with:

  • meeting the needs of readers
  • offering a quality service
  • developing confidence, choice and status for all those involved in reading

How can we use the good times to embed good practice so it is sustainable when the hard times come again?
