Newham Libraries is offering borrowers the chance to order books either online or by telephone and have them delivered straight to the door within two hours, for a charge of £3.00 per delivery. This is the first time a service like this has been offered by libraries in the UK.
Book Express is running for a trial period until January 2003.
How Book Express works
Step one: library members choose the books they want:
- Check library stock on-line:www.newham.gov.uk/linbraries/library
- Or phone 020 8430 6879: staff will check what is available
- Up to three books can be ordered
Step two: members contact Book Express
- Mon, Thurs: 9.30am -7pm; Tue, Wed, Fri: 9.30-4.30pm
- email: [email protected] or phone: 020 8430 6879
- And tell:
- the author and title of the book(s)
- name and library membership card number
- delivery address - anywhere in Newham
If the order is available Book Express will deliver within two hours
Step three: members can collect at their door
- There is a charge of £3 per delivery
- On delivery, simply show your library card and pay in cash.
Book Express is in addition to the Newham Libraries Outreach Service which can visit and deliver books to the housebound, or hospitals free of charge
