Touch Of - Regional Training Days
NLB and Opening
the Book working with the Branching Out librarians in the project group
provided training to public library staff in how to use A Touch Of and
A Touching Experience as a launch for promoting a full range of library
services to VIP readers.
There have been
10 regional training days covering:
- awareness of
visual impairment
- implications
of the Disability Discrimination Act
- knowledge of
access technology
- working with
voluntary societies for the blind
- knowledge of
different service providers, the National Union Catalogue of Alternative
Formats, the NLB's accessible OPAC
- reader development
initiatives for VIP readers such as NLB's website, Feeling Your Way
and Forager book choice as well as the Touch Of materials themselves
Some of the content
of the training days will be available on the website soon so that it
can be cascaded in all library authorities. Contact
