One of the aims of Branching Out is to increase the range of fiction available to readers in public libraries. We are therefore committed to buying fiction and poetry, published in the last five years, and from the following categories identified as underbought by public libraries:

  • Literary fiction from mainstream publishers
  • Poetry from both small and large publishers
  • Books from established independent presses
  • Community publishing and imaginative writing from oral
  • history/reminiscence
  • Fiction and poetry in translation
  • Gay and lesbian writing
  • Experimental fiction and poetry
  • World literature in English
  • Black British writing
  • Science fiction
