Dorset Libraries have approx 150 reading groups.

We don't buy stock specifically for reading groups (unless there is a particular event) and our reading groups aren't allowed to borrow any books that are under a year old.  This can prove quite controversial but we don't have the resources to buy reading group copies and if we let reading groups borrow the new titles they are likely to be reserved for the whole year so no-one else gets them.

Instead we put together a reading group list which details every 'over a year old book' that we have at least ten copies of.  This is edited down to remove titles that wouldn't appeal to reading groups.  The list groups the books into categories (British authors, classics, Richard and Judy bookclub titles etc), each book has a mini review and also says if it is available in large print or audio tape.  This booklist is updated and sent out annually with the categories changing each time.

We also send out forms asking reading groups if there is any particular titles that they'd like to see on the booklist but very few groups send in requests.
