Marion Boyars

The Imprint

Around 60 books in print, with an impressive backlist, the press publishes fiction in New York as well as the UK, so has two lists of current publications. Short, pithy catalogues full of high quality contemporary prizewinning fiction. Alongside the American work is also a very strong list of fiction in translation. The covers are sumptuous.

Example Publication:

The Eskimo in the Net
Gerard Beirne

A corpse and a mystery - a story about an obsession to discover the truth.  Drink, loneliness and the price of survival become the major themes in this subtly shaded and superbly handled literary debut from one of the best of the new Irish writers.

Who will read these books?

Everyone, eventually, when they all catch up. Marion Boyars were the first to publish Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and continue to find contemporary gems. These are books with a long life. Adventurous readers will pick up on them first, word of mouth will spread and soon you’ll have a waiting list.

Website

A muddled and quirky home page is bold, but doesn't help in finding your way round.  however, it's aim is to sell.  Currently they show a package of their titles face on to show how attractive a display like this might be to readers, using exactly the reader centred kind of appeal that libraries are using.  To get the most out of the site, read all the text on the homepage.  Once you do get into the site you can find all the information on the books that you need and news about authors and genres too.
