Who will make a good Co-ordinator?
The most important aspect of the role of the Co-ordinator is that they can manage the quality of the learning by overseeing how the course is being used.
Ideally, the Co-ordinator should be someone whose job already has a degree of flexibility or someone who can be given flexible time to take this on. They should have an interest in/brief for reader development, the position and personality to support other learners and the time to take the course and get your network of trainees and supervisors up and running. The role of Co-ordinator offers a chance for keen staff to take a supervisory role without necessarily having a managerial one. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and time are more important than level of previous experience.
The Frontline course will offer a separate section to help the Co-ordinator administer their own network of supervisors and trainees but, of course, the choice of supervisors and trainees, their number, when they start and how much time they have to complete the course, will be a decision for each authority. It might be that the administrative tasks associated with the course are placed on somebody else's shoulders eventually, but the Co-ordinator is the central point of contact and support.
