Why consult with Black readers?
- Because the Black audience is often invisible to the white service provider.
- Black readers may have low expectations that their needs will be met, or their views heard.
- Black readers may be indifferent to the library service, and think that it isn't for them.
- Black readers may lack information about what is available and be afraid to ask.
- Black readers have often reported feeling intimidated by staff and being put off by a dismissive attitude, so may be reluctant to offer their views.
