Introduction
(take 5 minutes)
whichbook.net is a new way for readers to find a good read. It is a unique ICT tool for readers that has been developed by Applied Pyschology Research Ltd and Opening the Book Ltd.
The books on the database were selected by librarians on the Branching Out project. whichbook.net is a really different way for borrowers to select fiction. If our catalogues are saying 'This is what is available,' then whichbook.net asks the reader, 'What kind of read are you looking for?'
whichbook.net starts with the reader and their reading tastes, encouraging them to give something new a try. It is a tool that is fun to use and is also designed to tempt borrowers into a reading adventure. As you will see, whichbook.net asks you what kind of read you would like and then selects titles for you to try.
There are over 600 titles in the database, which were chosen by librarians from non-traditional, contemporary stock. No reviews were written, the books were analysed by the use of descriptors, which avoided their own prejudices creeping in, and allowed all the titles to be judged in the same way and on the same scales. You brought along a book that you have read (maybe you even enjoyed it?) Let's use that as a starting point to understanding how to use whichbook.net.
