Response to Loud and Proud (Gay and Lesbian writing) promotion

Issue statistics and control comparison of promotion of gay and lesbian fiction, called Loud and Proud - a quantitative research project Birmingham, North Yorkshire and Croydon

Objective

To compare the issues of actively promoted stock against ordinary shelf stock within the same category.

Method

  • Examine performance of existing stock prior to promotion
  • Locate one collection of Loud and Proud in general stock and one in display bin to be actively promoted
  • Monitor performance of both collections and of existing stock throughout promotion period
  • Check performance of existing stock monthly for 6 months after promotion has ended

Presentation and use of results

  • Short report for BfS to send to libraries interested in buying the promotion
  • Extracted statistics to promote Loud and Proud in BfS' Promotion News magazine
  • Write up in professional journals - LAR, PLJ
  • Use on Branching Out website, committee reports within authority; relate to social inclusion strategy
  • Circulate to RAB Literature officers
