Introduction

This is a great practical exercise for getting people thinking and talking about how we make choices about what we're going to read.  The analogy with how we choose chocolates from a familiar chocolate box opens up a wider discussion about preferences, risks and availability in a very concrete way.  (Are the hard toffees always the ones left after Christmas in your house?)

Removing the visual signals which help people choose chocolates will bring home the difficulties of  choosing books when you are visually impaired.  Do you play safe with the ones you know or risk something which may taste awful?  Use this to get sighted library staff thinking about how to provide better information to visually impaired readers.
