Meet the books

Preparation

Choose a range of contemporary paperbacks.  Select some which appeal more to men and some to women.  Don't pick well-known bestsellers as these will already be familiar to staff.  Choose books which staff are likely to know less about or might feel a bit wary of - translations, gay writing, first novels.  Pick any book which has the sort of cover which might cause staff to pull a face!

Ask staff to read at least one title each before the training session, or if you are pressed for time, ask them to read the first chapter.  People can then choose to read more if they get interested but are not obliged to.
